Any veteran gardener will tell you that a garden without grass is a garden without a soul. Grass does give the garden the touch of pervading green that it needs. It is the color that is often expected from gardens, after all. And anything otherwise would just look drab and boring, no matter how innovative the purpose may be.

But there are some problems with grass keeping that are quite too tedious to neglect.

* You have to make it a point to trim the grass area of your garden, least they grow too tall as to make your backyard look like an abandoned lot.

* Grass, for all the beauty they could provide, is only limited to outdoor areas.

* Grass can, and will, compete for the essential nutrients of the soil, as well as the water supply, with your centerpiece plants.

* Not all grasses are good for golf practice, and let's face it, aside from gardening, grass enjoyed resurgence in popularity because of the growing number of golf enthusiasts.

For many people, artificial grass has become a great alternative to the real thing. Artificial grass does not grow. It does not die. It does not compete with other plants. And it comes in a variety of design that would be perfect for any purpose - golf included.

Artificial grass is likewise the only option when it comes to giving the interiors of your house a more organic look. Growing real grass indoors will most definitely open the windows for more problems. Real grass smells, and the laborious demands for its maintenance can prove to be too much for any homeowner.

But artificial grass is not all beneficial. It is susceptible to some disadvantages for the gardening homeowner as well.

* It is expensive. Not everyone will be able to afford this alternative.

* Some fake grass looks very artificial, which will defeat the purpose of being a viable replacement for the real thing.

* Some fake grass types are made up of cheap materials that can be painful for the feet, and may even be dangerous for children.

With replacement grass, it's pretty much a hit or miss. They're not built alike. One brand is different from another, often, in all aspects of the product.

The surest way to come up with the most prudent decision?

Study your options - and study them well. Canvass. Look at the strengths as well as the weaknesses of your every choice. Only by doing so will you be able to find the right non-natural grass for your needs.
